
The medical mission in Cebu was successfully completed on June 24 to 30, 2018.
This was made possible by the collaboration of three groups, the Global Kalinga
eRotary Club (GKeRC) of Orange County with its project director, immediate past
president Romeo Leonardo Toledo as the lead organization, partnering with the
Medical Task Force International (MTFI) headed by its Chairman and Founder Dr.
Tony Lee, a doctor at Kaiser Permanente in Fontana and a medical professor at
Loma Linda University and Rotary Club of Cebu Port Center (CPCRC), Cebu City,
Philippines, District 3860. Dr. Lee was assisted in this project by Jasmine Merzo
Ilagan, a Nurse at Kaiser Permanente at Fontana, California.
The core of the mission were 60 medical volunteers from California, comprising
of a mix of doctors, nurses and medical students from Loma Linda University, UC
Irvine and UCLA. The medicine was provided by MTF International, the bus
transportation was shouldered by GKeRC and the local venues of the medical
mission were chosen by CPCRC GKeRC IPP Toledo has coordinated with the Philippine Consulate in Los Angeles the processing of the Red Ribbon Authentication of all medical doctors of the mission. The authentications were sent to the Professional Regulation Commission in Manila for approval of their medical practice in Philippines.
On Day 1 of the mission, June 25, 2018, 2,500 patients from south of Cebu were
treated in Naga City, Cebu. On June 26, 2018, Day 2, 2,000 patients from south of Cebu were treated in Talisay City, Cebu. On June 27, 2018, Day 3, 1,500 patients from north of Cebu were treated in Barangay Bongdo, Borbon, Cebu. On Day 4, June 28, 2018, 1,000 patients from north of Cebu were treated in Barangay Tambongon, San Remigio, Cebu. In summary, a total of 7,000 patients were treated for a span of four days of the mission.
Two days were allotted for rest and recreation. On Day 5, June 29, 2018, we had
whale watching at Oslob, Cebu and beach swimming. On Day 6, June 30, 20187, we had a boat ride to Tagbilaran, Bohol. The Bohol Tour featured a spectacular viewing of the Chocolate Hills and appreciation of the Tarsier, the smallest monkey in the world. This followed a hearty lunch while enjoying the Bohol River Cruise. After lunch, we proceeded to Panglao, Hennan Resorts, considered the best resort in the province. On Day 7, July 1, 2018, we got back to Cebu City. We flew back home to USA on Day 8, July 2, 2018 for a mission accomplished.
